Superb, like the view which it offers onto the hillsides of the Chianti, this aristocratic 18th Century manor had historically illustrious owners. The splendid position towards the south gives an unforgettable panorama onto this part of Tuscany which conserves untouched the character of this landscape from the times of the Rinascimento, in a joining of vinyards, cypresses with the occasional country houses on the hill-tops. The property includes a vast wooded estate, also with vinyards and olive-goves.
Property overview
This villa is an impressive, elegant, aristocratic and important manor, which, together with the nearby chapel pertaining to it, dominates the Chianti landscape from its position on the hill. It is south facing, as are almost all of the noble houses in Italy. From many of the rooms and from the terrace-like lawn in front of the villa one enjoys a wonderful view onto the vineyards. From the swimming-pool, which lies secluded at the back of the central area of the property, one looks out onto the hilly landscape so characteristic of Tuscany.
The villa of the 18th Century stands slightly separated from the surrounding, discrete agricultural buildings, which serve the wine-production. Built by the Pianigiani family, it became property of the Strozzi princely family in 1850 and of the Barons Sonnino around the end of the 19th Century. One member of that family a few years later became Prime Minister of Italy.
